Yesterday’s workout was tough. Everyone wants to get faster, but the actually work is pretty hard. I have never done speed work, I just though that the more I ran, the easier it would get and slowly over time, I would get a bit faster. I guess this works to an extent, but it’s aimless. SkinnyRunner posted about getting faster and I like what she had to say, so I devised a mini-plan.
Obviously to get faster, you have to get your body to get on board and tell you it feels normal. On Day Four, my objective was to run a longer distance at a quicker tempo than usual and see how it went.
Here was the workout:
- 1/2 KM warm up
- 1 KM 10.5 Speed (Recovery) + 1 KM 12.0 Speed (Tempo) *Repeat combo 3 times.
- 1 KM Cool Down
It was "eh". Not terrible, but also not comfortable. I think next time I do this workout, I will make the recovery shorter.
For today’s workout, I gave myself an option of a hill workout or run with my running club, which inevitability would include hills.
It was windy, so I opted for a home treadmill hill workout. About an hour before I ran, I ate some fiber cereal with soy milk. Holy heartburn.
I was supposed to progressive hills (increasing incline every 400M), but I only got through half of the workout. I did some impromptu strength training and got pretty sweaty, but I did not complete my treadmill workout. My legs and my heartburn were not having the hills.
Since tomorrow was supposed to be a rest day, I will try to fit in the other half of the hill workout. I also have a holiday party tomorrow, so unless I get up in the morning and get it done, I doubt it will happen.
Another new addition to our home is a mirrored wall that I love. It really has opened up the space and made it brighter.
What I wore to work: Dress and belt, Forever New (AUS brand). Pearls, Tiffany & Co. Espadrilles, Valentino.
I got this dress in Durban in January and have never worn it until today.
I’m a little obsessed with these shoes at the moment. Bows, wedges, summery, comfortable…what’s not to love?
I’ve worn them to work twice this week and I am considering wearing them tomorrow to my luncheon tomorrow. My workout may have been sub-par, but these shoes are winners.
Runners….do you prefer speed work or hills?
Speed work any day. Hills don’t bother me in races, but I dread them on the treadmill.
Shoe Lovers… do you ever plan your outfit around your shoes?
Absolutely.
